My iPhone shows a poor streaming quality when connected to AirPods

I have this strange issue. The phone I'm using (iPhone 12) has a really poor audio streaming quality when I bluetooth connect it to my AirPods. I'm currently using an iPhone 12, but I had this same problem on my iPhone 13 mini. When I connect my iPad with my AirPods the quality sounds 10 times better. When my friend connects her iPhone with my AirPods it also sounds a lot better. Does anyone know what might be wrong? I factory resetted the iPhone 13 mini once, and the problem isn't limited to only one streaming service, I've tested multiple.
