IPhone won't let me accept new iCloud terms and conditions

I have an iPhone SE, iOS version 17.7.1. I have this notice in Settings: "To use iCloud on this iPhone you must accept the new iCloud Terms and Conditions, and enter your iPhone passcode." Right below this is "Continue" in blue. I hit "Continue" and the screen shrinks for a moment like it's about to be replaced with another screen (which presumably would allow me to review and accept the new T&C), but it never actually goes anywhere; it remains on the same screen with the same quoted language, and the same "continue". I've tried signing out of my Apple account and signing back in again but it made no difference.

It is beyond ridiculous that this issue is all over the support chat boards, and NO solution is available. I've tried signing out and back in. Why is this happening to SO MANY users? and no solution?

I appreciate that Apple has a "solution". For someone who prefers to wait before installing a major version update, however, this isn't a practical solution. 18.01 or even 18.1 have not quite gone through the "user testing" process (X.2 or X.3 are arguably more stable versions.)

Anyone who doesn't have the newer iPhone models won't benefit much from the bells and whistles of iOS 18. Apparently users whose phones don't have enough space can't even update.


Why doesn't Apple just put out a fix for this bug in a version 17.7.x?

Forcing users to upgrade (iOS or their iPhone) this way is a crappy way to bump up your install stats.


Hoping the iCloud services I do use will continue to function while waiting for a stable version. Sigh.

I have exclusively used Apple products since the 1980s after using Windows. IMO, Apple software, backward compatibility, software issues, and user interface experience is the worst its ever been. It’s gotten so bad over the years, I’m about to go another way.


I will say their hardware quality and reliability has been excellant; still have a functional 2011 Macbook.
