Missing 'Off' setting for AirPods transparency mode

There is no longer an option to have the “off” setting on my AirPods. Constantly in transparency or adaptive. Then sound canceling with both. But I just want them off. Other setting can be annoying at work

Has anyone found fix for this

The option for noise cancelling and adaptive no longer works with just one airpod after the last update. I walk with one airpod to hear the traffic. I use noise cancelling to block out the traffic sound in my one ear making podcasts easier to hear while still cognizant of the environment with my other ear. In bed I use one airpod in full noise cancelling to block out my partners snoring while listening on my side.

Transparency is only needed when you are interacting with people or in a situation where you need to hear the environment.

I sure hope Apple can bring back this simple toggle in the settings.
