If i read an email in macOS Mail the “unread” dot disappears but if i go to Mail on my iPhone, the “unread” dot still is there.
both devices are up to date with the OS.

I would check to see if your background app refresh is working on you iPhone but I have seen numerous people wondering why their emails are not being downloaded like they use to even if they were not on Mail.
