I am skeptical of iPadOS 18 update due to memory issues. What do you think?

I generate up to 1 GB files on my iPad 10. Periodically I dump them to a USB drive and delete them from On My iPad. My workload can take up over 50% of the 64GB memory before I move it to a USB drive. What is your opinion of downloading iPadOS 18 to such an iPad with only 64GB memory, an iPad 10 CPU chip, and a heavy workload?

Even though compatible, is iPadOS 18 going to overtax my little iPad when I generate large complicated files with iMovie and GarageBand? Is iPadOS 18 going to crash my bare-bones iPad 10 and leave me with yet another obsolete device?

My old iPad is now a slab of glass/metal/plastic so outdated it barely will bring a text file up to the screen yet its memory is only 20% full.

Is iPadOS 18 the beginning of the end of my iPad 10?

No reason to think any of that will happen.

Also, memory(RAM) and storage (what you use to save files) are different things not to be confused.

iOS 18 may use tiny bit more storage than your current version nothing major, but RAM memory will not be adversely affected in any way.

I can assure you there are hundreds of thousands of people with iPad 10s out there running iOS 18 that have had no issues at all.

The iPad 10, is Apple's current regular iPad model, it's not old, it's not obsolete, its currently being sold and it supports iOS 18 just fine.

iPadOS18 introduces functional updates for your iPad10. However, as your iPad10 fundamentally does not support the new Apple Intelligence features, the demands placed upon your base-model iPad10 are unlikely to be noticeably greater than that of iPadOS 17.7.x - as presumed to be currently installed on your iPad.

If your iPad10 is currently adequate for your needs, iPadOS18 should not be noticeably different. You may even see an improvement in system performance.
