Sequoia 15.1 won't open Microsoft installer pkg even with Gatekeeper disabled

Dear Community,

I downloaded Microsoft_365_and_Office_16.77.23091003_Installer.pkg (an Installer flat package file) directly from microsoft.com. That .pkg cannot be opened:

I disabled Gatekeeper (obtaining the Security option to Allow applications from Anywhere via Terminal, sudo spctl --master-disable), without any change.

It strikes me as unlikely for Microsoft to not register their products with Apple (but then again, it is Microsoft, so … ). Any idea what might be going on here?

So where did you get this installer? It’s an old version of Office. The current version is 16.9.xxxx. If you got this anywhere but Microsoft it may be corrupted or worse.. Even if you got it from Microsoft it may have been corrupted during the download.

I downloaded it from microsoft.com, guided by their own pathways to the download section (https://www.microsoft.com/de-de/microsoft-365/buy/compare-all-microsoft-365-products, and from there on further. I'm presently in Germany, but maybe a vpn would help me to an English and thereby more recent version.)

I do, starting today, as a 1 month tryout. I did just now manage to install it after starting the Mac in safe mode (any idea on how to determine which app keeps the installer from working in regular mode will be appreciated, too). Now I experience other problems (it is Microsoft after all) but none installer related.

And do you currently have a 365 subscription active? You must subscribe to 365, it is not a standalone one-time payment option any longer.
