EarPods "skip track" function not working on podcasts.

Hi, 

I listen to the PBS News Hour segment podcast on my iPhone using wired earpods. The “skip track” function - which works when listening to an album, for example - doesn’t work for the podcast. I can fast forward thru a segment, but cannot switch to the next segment. The earpods and iphone appear to be functioning normally. Is there a fix for this problem?
