Apple Maps does not give turn by turn directions via the car speakers

iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 18.1, 2024 Honda Accord with CarPlay. Music and podcast play through the cars stereo while using CarPlay. Apple Maps displays directions on the CarPlat car screen. However, turn by turn directions on come out of the tiny iPhone speaker. How can I get them to play thorough the car stereo like Apple Music does?
