Photos slideshow videos play but not when exported as movie

Hi, I'm on macOS Sonoma 14.7.1. I've got motorbike trip slideshow containing both pictures and videos.

The videos were created from a camcorder (mounted on bike) jpegs turned into an iMovie clip, sped up to 2x, then exported as a movie ".m4v". In Photos, the slideshow playback including embedded movie is correct. I then Export the resultant slideshow movie (at any resolution).

In Quicktime, I play the slideshow movie and all OK until the camcorder 2x video. The images don't play correctly and shows only the first image of 2x video. This continues for duration of video, then slideshow movie continues with remaining pictures.

I've searched on this forum and elsewhere. All so far have probs with video playback in Photos etc. Mine is fine. It's only in the Export movie. I've experimented a lot. Any help appreciated, cheers

Started again with motocam jpegs (20 of them):

  • In Photos, imported jpegs and played video OK. Then created video with Classic theme, Duration Settings default (slider towards left hand side 'fast') produced 01:16 duration. Exported as ".mv4" at 1080p. In QuickTime, opened video, playback images changed at normal speed, and playback OK;
  • To get get 'fast', in Photos, imported jpegs and played video OK. Then created video with Classic theme, Duration Settings>Custom slider all the way left hand side fast produced 00:38 duration. Exported as ".mv4" at 1080p. In QuickTime, open video, playback images changed at fast (approx 2x) speed, and playback OK.

This kludge worked although can't select speed easily/accurately. The speed must be a ratio of 01:01 as to 00:38. Still, better than nothing...

This kludge worked although can't select speed directly (as in iMovie 2x, 4x, etc) except via the Custom slider. The speed must be a ratio of 01:16 as to 00:38. Still, better than nothing...

Would still prefer the iMovie route and would like to know why the movies don't playback correctly?

update: my Photos' created fast speed movie works (as expected). In the overall slideshow that contains the embedded video, playback & preview works correctly. However, when I export as a movie (all resolutions) and playback in QuickTime, the embedded video doesn't play and get only the first image, for the duration of the embedded movie/video, then the overall slideshow movie continues normally.

Summing up, I've made no progress in getting an embedded movie to play correctly within its overall/host movie

Photos slideshow videos play but not when exported as movie
