Remove Apple Music (with answer for some users)
I was looking for a way to stop apple music from opening without being requested. Uninstalling won't work (easily).
However, one can make a configuration profile with Apple Configurator that blocks Apple Music... but it will only work in a "supervised mode", meaning the Mac should be enrolled in an MDM (mobile device management) system.
That makes it rather complicated for a non-business user, as you need your IT support team to setup a business account with apple first, in order for them to access business.apple.com
Once that's done, they need to enroll your device, and link it to an MDM such as Jamf Now (free for 5 devices) or Jamf Pro (you likely need to be working in IT to learn the pro skills), and Jamf Pro is not cheap.
This is the only apple supported way to block Apple Music from starting. But it shows that it is not a required system of the OS...
I don't work for apple, but manage a fleet of Apple (and Linux and Windows) devices in my company.
I wish apple made it easier... that would make them also more business friendly
