Why do I keep getting a message sayingThe certificate for this server is invalid

My husband keeps getting this message when he tries to listen to music when outside the house:

The certificate for this server is invalid. You might be connecting to a server that is pretending to be "play.itunes.apple.com", which could put your confidential information at risk.

What does it mean? (He has quite an old iPhone, an 8 I believe.)
