This is an absolutely crazy move by Apple. That brush is one of the most useful and important tools in Photos. If anything, it needed enhancing with clone options, not removing entirely. The Clean Up tab is cumbersome and not the same tool. If I need to remove a spec, I can't do that with Clean Up.

Apple, please bring back the brush!!!!

I wish they had left both, the new tool only works if you have Internet, the old tool worked any time. And in some uses worked better. Why can't they add the new tool, but leave the ReTouch which worked fantastic? No need to remove it. Both have their uses.

Apple is trying to unify the code between the devices, so iPad apps can now run on the Mac.

So far, we have had no Retouche Tool in Photos on the iPhone or iPad - the new "Clean up" is the first tool for retouching in Photos iOS/iPadOS. Perhaps Apple removed the older Retouch tool from Photos for Mac as a further milestone when trying to make Photos iOS and Photos for Mac more similar. I would have preferred, if Apple had brought smart albums and keywords to Photos on the iPad and iPhone instead.

You don't need to retrocede so much, otherwise you'll face performance and compatibility issues soon. Just stick with Sonoma and you should be fine. I don't buy the BS that once you upgrade to Sequoia 15.1 you cannot downgrade. It's a lot of work do so, but it's possible.

ROAlmeida, in response to your question regarding why Retouch wasn't removed from Photos on Intel Macs, I'm thinking it was overlooked or in the works. Intel Macs and Silicon Macs have different features, instruction sets, and architectures, leading to differences in performance and compatibility. I'm sure now that you've raised the question, future updates will be changing on Intel Macs too.
