I am trying to create an email address which is kept separate for legal purposes and I am advised to give it a new password. I have created a new alias to my Apple email account; but I don’t want to change the password for the whole account, just this one email alias. Is that possible?

An alias is not a separate email address.
If you want a separate email address, you'll need to get it through a different email provider.
