Excel date input format

I prefer to use the dd/mm/yy date format. At a certain point, Excel stopped allowing dates to be inputted in that format. While I can still have them displayed as dd/mm/yy, I have to input them as mm/dd/yy or Excel will not interpret them correctly. Do other people have this problem? Thanks!

Well, under normal (pre-glitch) conditions, the format I set for the date is used both for input and for display. So if the date format is dd/mm/yy and I type in 09/10/99, Excel interprets that dates as 9 October 1999 and displays it as 09/10/99.

After the fateful update, the format I set for the data only works for the display, whereas Excel interprets all input dates as mm/dd/yy. If I again type in 09/10/99, it reads it as 10 September 1999 and displays it as 10/09/99.

The issue here is that if I have specified a date format of dd/mm/yy, I expect to be able to input my dates as dd/mm/yy. Excel suddenly stopped letting me do that.
