Mac Mini m4 fan behavior
Hi,
Is the fan of the Mac Mini M4 always spinning or is it off and turned on when high processing?
I'd like to use it for recording at home, and no fan noise would be ideal.
Many thanks.

I just got my Pro model. Fan is always running about 1000rpm. I hear nothing and even under load does not change much in speed so no noise at all.

If it’s like every single other Apple device with a fan, the fan runs constantly and increases or decease the rpms as needed. I would bet my upcoming social security deposit on this being the case.
Since a whole lot of professional recording studios use Macs and Logic Pro the fan noise issue doesn’t seem to be a factor. But of course professionals don’t have their gear in the same room as the recording environment and neither should you. You will NEVER be able to find any hardware that has no fan noise unless perhaps an iPad Pro.
You can wait for the early M4 Mac mini purchasers to share their experience with fan noise.
Or you can purchase now, knowing that Apple has a 14 day return policy.
Hardware Specification for the new M4 Mac Mini
Check out the " Acoustic Performance " numbers at the Bottom of the page
Perhaps one of the other contributors and help interpret the numbers
I would if I really understood what this all meant
Since no one yet has one of the new Mac minis, no one can yet say. If it's like other Macs with fans, the fans will change their operation depending on the cooling needs of the system and will spin faster during times of heavier load. How loud that will be, none of us here will know at this time. You'll have to wait until people start receiving their new minis and can evaluate.
Regards.
Some reviews came out today (PC Mag, Engadget, etc) and they all listed loud fan noise from the Mac Mini M4 Pro under heavy workloads as a con.
I’m planning on buying one for recording as well, I’ll be waiting for some video reviews to maybe get more of an idea of how loud this new Mac Mini’s fans are.
Probably not apples to apples but my Mac studio fan is quiet (cannot even hear it running) even under heavy use.
That very scientific table is missing a row - "Heavy Science Load / Mining" = ? B (bell)
