Macbook Air cannot restart after installing MacOs Sonoma

After installing the macos Sonoma, recovery assistant keeps opening up, asking to select a user you know the password for. Then, click on restart. The apple logo appears twice; the laptop seems to restart; then the restarting process is interrupted and recovery assistant reappears. What to do?
