Updated iCloud, lost entire desktop

I had reached max iCloud storage on my phone, so I started turning things off under iCloud to clear some storage. I then went onto my computer and my ENTIRE desktop, every single folder, is gone. I've since turned everything back on on my phone but my entire desktop is still gone. PLEASE help - all my business documents, everything is missing.

Not sure I’m following. Turning off iCloud sync on your phone will not affect iCloud sync on your Mac. If you turned off iCloud on your Mac, and disabled desktop and documents, your desktop and documents folder are retained in iCloud Drive and new desktop and documents locations are created on you Mac. Simply drag and drop your files from iCloud Drive back to desktop or documents. Otherwise, restore your desktop from your Time Machine (or similar) backup.
