Apple Mac OS - Give Me Back My Screenshot Drawing Toolbar by Default, Please!!

With Sonoma, Apple decided (based on what I don't know) to not show the drawing toolbar automatically after taking a snapshot. Not only is this super annoying, but it goes against the standard Usability Heuristics and is poor UX design. The idea is to make it easier with fewer clicks. Instead, it's now 2 more clicks (one to show the bar, and another to click on the draw icon). I would suggest:

  1. Put it back the way it was
  2. If you want to improve it, then allow the default action selected in the toolbar to be selected

I can't help but wonder if someone's pull request didn't get merged from a previous OS and so the functionality was lost.

You already have the code from the last OS -- copy and paste it into the next Sonoma update/rollout. Easy-peasy. Give me the code and I'll do it for free.

I doubt that Apple will give you proprietary code. And even if they did, I doubt you could paste it easy-peasy into the MacOS. And even if you could do that, it would not install because individual users (even owners of the computer with root access) cannot modify modern versions of the MacOS, it is in a sealed read-only volume (snapshot actually).

Your best bet is to provide feedback, which you have, to Apple. But it is possible that that drawing toolbar was removed by default because most users don't want it cluttering up their screen and most don't use it (I never have), so they might have provided feedback opposite to yours asking to have it removed by default (but still retrievable).

Not all users have the same wants and perspectives. I learned this back when I was writing spacecraft navigation software that scores of analysts were using. I would often get conflicting requests from the user community.
