Desktop file masked by dock bar

Somehow, I managed to drag one of my Desktop files, in such a way that it lies behind the dock bar. And I am not able to click on that file anymore from the Desktop.

See the attached image. You can see a tiny bit of the masked file (it's a narrow grey bar) just under the Chrome icon in the Dock. Whenever I try to click on this narrow grey bar, OSX thinks I am clicking on the Chrome icon.

I tried to find a way to minimize the Dock, but it seems it's not possible. Any idea how I can click on this file to move it to a location that is accessible from the Desktop?

In System Settings > Desktop & Dock panel, temporarily change the position of the Dock on the screen to the left, click and drag your file elsewhere on the Desktop, and then change that Dock position back to the bottom.

If the Dock won’t minimize, open Finder, go to the Desktop folder, move the file to another folder (Documents, for instance) and (from Finder) move the file to the Desktop. This might also work without going through another folder.

How simple! How obvious! How completely far from anything I was going to suggest. I was thinking about things like screen sharing and second monitors and.....
