Finder window not giving location path of search items at bottom of window

When I perform a search in the finder window in columns view, and click on the folder/file I would like to know the location of, a path sometimes displays at the bottom of the window, but sometimes blinks on for just a split second and then disappears.

Yes, I know I needed to upgrade OS, but that is a hassle I have not had time for. The path function used to work flawlessly, so what happened?

In Monterey 12.7.6, empty folders do not expand further in column view and that would end the Path Bar content at that folder depth.

Otherwise, even though I never use list or column view in the Finder, I see no failure of the Path Bar to expand and report while a folder contains content.

I never find it a hassle to update my operating system nor does it consume much time in the process. That way, I am ensured that the operating system has the most recent fixes, and third-party applications may expect this too.
