Running Total in Calculator in Sequoia

Historically, you could take a number (say 10) subtract 2 and then press the + sign and the display would show 8 and be prepared to take your next number entry for addition. Now it seems that the display just keeps showing your entries without giving you a subtotal as you go. You have to enter an equal sign after each function which is a pain if you are making entries, for example, in your checkbook. Is there any way to have the display perform each function upon pressing the next function button like the old calculator?

There have been a lot of changes in the Calculator application in Sequoia. Some people really hate it. Other people, like me, don't care. But the recommendation that seems to be the best for people who hate it is to spend the money to buy PCalc. I've seen it recommended here for years by people whose opinions I respect. And I've seen a lot of people who were very unhappy with the never version say that they like it a lot. I believe it's about $10.
