Restarting issue in MacBook Air M2 post Sonoma update

You are aware, this specific computer is a Fan-Less computer

It is 100% Dependant on proper ventilation AND the Ambient Temperature in the place it is being used

Allowing it to reach " from 39c to 50 or 55 " is well beyond the Safe Usage Temperatures

On my M2 MacBook Air, but not on my M1 Mac mini, I also have this problem.

I was on the phone to Apple about this yesterday, with senior advisor input. Here is what does not solve it, listed.

1. OS update to any version of 17 – 14.7.1 (23H222) being the latest.
2. running Etre Check
3. booting into recovery and running disk first aid on the boot drive
4. booting into safe mode
5. creating a brand new user, logging into that account, and rebooting from there

The date stamps on posts mentioning this problem (in these forums and elsewhere) all seem clustered to Autumn, 2024. Perhaps they changed some OS code around the time of the 14.7 update. If the problem were merely hardware, why so many apparently simultaneous appearances of the problem?

Let us hope they fix it soon. I have been reluctant to try MacOS 18 now, because I have been punished for early adoption before, but in this situation, I will try it.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here. Use the "additional text" button and paste the report into the text box.

That is related to a display issue. If I had to guess it would be an external display or an externally connected device that can act as a display such as a hub or dock which allows display connections. I would suggest disconnecting all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.

Yes I am very aware there are Hot and Very Hot and Humid environment especially that this time of year as the Monsoons are upon certain locations

We , as fellow users, nor Apple, can control when and where the User ( you ) decide to use the Fan-less Computer

The Best I will suggest, even after looking at the Etrecheck Report

Is to get a fan or some other cooling device and use the computer during to cooler period of the day OR Night

Doing otherwise may damage the computer to a point it will require Replacement

If I may share

I once had the first Fan-less Apple 12 MacBook Intel, weight 2 pounds

I pushed that computer beyond its abilities to cope with the Summer Weather where I live

Pushed and pushed it until it Fried The Logicboard

What you do with this information is really up to you

Bad sensor caused by manufacturing defect or my excessive heat and humidity - kind of hard to determine 😎

Respectfully, having run the computer previously in Above than Safe Operating System Temperature, outlined earlier

May have contributed to the current issue

Logic tells me, that the accumulated effects of using the computer in Above than Safe Temperatures will at sometime causes issue

On my M2 MacBook Air which had the same problem, upgrading to Sequoia 15.1 resolved it. I can now shut down my machine without a kernel panic reboot, and I can now restart it without a kernel panic message.

Whew.
