How do I stop showing reminders in calendar?

After the upgrade, my calendar is too cluttered to use. I can't find events because reminders, even daily reminders, are clogging my display.

On the Mac, display the calendar sidebar and turn off "Scheduled Reminders".

On iPhone and iPad, in Calendar, tap Calendars (bottom, center) and turn off "Schedule Reminders" and "Show Completed Reminders".

Nothing to do for the Apple Watch as it will follow the iPhone settings.

I have deselected SCHEDULED REMINDERS in the sidebar of my Calendar app but as soon as I click to add a calendar item SCHEDULED REMINDERS is again checked and active. How do I remove it for good?

That's odd. It doesn't happen on my end when I create a new calendar. I'm using iOS 18.2 if it makes any difference.
