Calculator Functionality Change After Update

I've encountered an issue with the Calculator functionality following a recent update on macOS Sequoia 15.0.

Previously, when calculating percentages, the app would display the percentage value before showing the final result. However, after the update, it now skips directly to the final answer.

This change requires me to perform an additional step: subtracting the total from the dollar amount I'm calculating the percentage on.

Has anyone else experienced this change in behavior? If so, is there a way to revert to the previous functionality or a workaround to streamline the calculation process?

Thank you for your insights and assistance.

Hi,

Let's say the Initial amount: $831.26

and the Percentage increase is: 25%

Calculating before the update, It would show me the percentage increase before I hit the equal sign .

Example1 $831.26+25% (207.815) =1039.075

Calculating after the update

Example 2 $831.26+25%=1039.75

So now I have to subtract the "total" from the dollar amount to verify the percentage increase.

1039.075-831.26=207.815 (Extra Step)

I have the same problem! I calculate money quantities and distribution on the go, the previous calculator was so useful because it showed me the value of the percentage I wanted to subtract!! Now I am REALLY FRUSTRATED!! It was so quick and easy, I know how to do the extra steps but I don’t want to, I want the function as it was, is there any other app that shows it????? I don’t fn care if it can be done in excel or in a MacBook, I need it done in the iPhone on the go, easy and automatic that’s why I’m on apple side because everything just works… or it’s supposed to.

Confirmed behavior in older Calculator:

$831.26+25% after press percent key it displays 207.82

prior to you pressing = then it shows the total 1039.074.

Confirmed new behavior in macOS Sequoia:

Where the value 207.82 is not displayed at all.

Pcalc alternative App store Calculator (powerful so many features and customizations):

Original % behavior matches earlier Calculator App pre-Sequoia

It even puts the value in the paper tape unlike the older macOS Calculator!

If you enable Settings -> General -> Show ticker tape then you can see this:

You can stretch and resize Pcalc's window, below I stretched it wider to not almost cut off the 8 from the previous screenshot.

Here is the default look out of the box

And Dark Mode

Many more themes and features too numerous to post here. It supports Reverse Polish Notation RPN.

You can edit the layouts customize every button and control, etc.

Best $9.99 I've spent on any App. I love Pcalc.

Another thing that has gone is on the iPhone you used to be able to swipe left to quickly remove an error it was like a back space that’s gone too, I don’t understand how that works add functionality and then remove it, people get used to the functionality and then apple devs remove it making the product worse not better….

come on guys do this right

No, he wants to see the value of the Percentage amount. In your equation the value is 5.
Useful for when you get a bill at a restaurant and it has tip amount section.
You now have to do
100-5%=95
100-95= 5 to get the 5 value of the percentage amount

I understand that. But I was just saying I don't blindly trust a calculator. I always estimate the result beforehand so that I can validate the result. I have no need for the changed value. I certainly wouldn't break out my MacBook to calculate a tip amount, even if I couldn't calculate it in my head.
