Why did my iMac stop offering accent options?

It would probably be useful if you said what language keyboard you're using.

There are a couple of people in the forums who are experts in fonts/languages/keyboards. I have no doubt but that one will weigh in.

When I hold a key after about a second a list of accents appears, and I can tap the number of the one that I want.
