Software update issues with macOS Sequoia

In the first days it was only screen flickering using Safari. Later on there is a horizontal white line (nearly 100px long) is showing up/flickering constantly on the top left part of the screen in the desktop. Still continues, no solution. Any idea? Thanks

Interesting that I have NONE of those problems on my M1 MacBook Pro.

I use it for business related tasks all day, including PDFs, MS Office, printers and virtualization. I have 2 monitors and 6 virtual windows on the 27 inch external monitor, plus one on the MBPs screen, and I have typically a dozen or more apps running simultaneously.

For VMware Fusion it requires an ARM version of Windows, which is available on the Windows support site.

Pages app is not for PDFs, which are opened in the Preview app.

Sequoia works perfectly with my HP all purpose with scanner, and also my Doxie scanner. And it reports the status of my printer whenever I ask. I gave up Windows almost 20 years ago for MacOS, and found it much more reliable, secure and, when I needed Windows, I used Fusion. As I don’t need Windows anymore, as MS 365 is available for Mac, I also got rid of Fusion.

Too bad you had unusual problems, but they were certainly solvable. But enjoy your Lenovo!

There's not much point in asking for help if you refuse to take it when offered. You don't need that "security" software and, unless you're using the VPN to access a secure server for work or school, you probably don't need that, either. For most people, it's all just so much security theatre designed to relocate your money from your wallet to the developers of such software. If it hadn't been installed, it's likely that your update would have been just as smooth as it was for most people.

I was able to fix the problem by going to:

1. System Setting
2. VPN
3. Toggle/Turn Off VPN (if it does not allow you, do step 4)
4. Click on exclamation point ( ! )
5. Toggle/Turn Off Connect On Demand
6. Restart your Mac (in my case a MacBook Pro 16" 2019)

2. Finder issue: Random folders open instead of the one clicked.
3. Applications keep shutting down: Adobe Illustrator keeps asking to save files even after they've been saved.
4. Keyboard issue: Lowercase letters change to uppercase in the middle of typing, even when Caps Lock is off.
5. Application issue (Gmail, Outlook, company chat): Clicking buttons opens new windows, prevents moving to the next step, window stops responding, can't scroll.

These issues are affecting workflow, and it feels like the system might be compromised. Immediate fix needed.

Updated to Yosemite. Since then website break down in seconds. Build up, then white screen with error message - a problem repeatedly occurred with ...name of website. Diverse websites. Unable to work with it any more. Help?

Thanks for your response, after previous post telling me it's all my fault for wasting my money on security (which they said I don't need without knowing anything about my situation) left me annoyed by all of it. I know that I tried the fixes I am capable of and will just contact support directly as the community seems to be either just as confused and unhappy as I am or very opinionated about my personal status. Security software such as CrowdStrike, ESET, Microsoft Defender, and likely many more are NOT COMPATIBLE WITH macOS Sequoia as of the public release.

Prior to upgrading any operating system (Windows, macOS, Linux, etc.) you must check if the software you use will be compatible with the new OS. You do that by going to the vendors website and checking to see what version of macOS is supported. It should be on the download or support pages.

This is why corporate IT will more than likely defer macOS upgrades for up to 90 days. They need time for the 3rd party vendors to update their software to be compatible with a new OS just recently released. Sometimes that can take longer than 90 days so those security tools can be used to block the Sequoia installer.

There are no amount of hours wasted that will make this right.

Apple makes their software available to other software manufacturers well in advance of the final release. It is the responsibility of those manufactures (who are not "partners") to make any required changes in their software.

FACT: When you update any OS it is ESSENTIAL to reinstall VPN. The VPN profile connects deeply into the protocol stack, so whenever there is a new version of network protocols that will almost certainly break VPN.

I have ZERO problems with Safari. If you did not reinstall VPN that is causing your problem.

I found after installing 15.0 Sequoia from scratch that VPN connections using 3rd party clients are problematic or not functional at all. Security settings changed as recommended do not matter or fix/change anything (enabling network extensions for the software that did install them, restarting, praying. All futile).

All of the VPN settings did work when I simply upgraded from Sonoma to Sequoia. I had to wipe and reinstall because of other OS-upgrade-related slowdowns but the third-party VPNs did work before the wipe. Now they don't work at all.

I had the same connectivity issues. I have a 2023 Mac Pro 14" . After wasting several hours trying to troubleshoot I turned off firewall and my safari came back. I certainly am not recommending but for whatever reason it is now working. Wish I had waited my usual customary 30-60 days on this one. Hoping they have a fix soon so i can turn back on. Bad QA from what i can see. How do you miss this one? Safari seemed fragile to begin without having a major update;).

With over 2 billion customers no matter what problem you have it is virtually certain that there are other users with a similar issue. But how does knowing this help you?

What specifically are the issues your users are seeing? I would expect that there are dozens of possible causes of networking issues, because there are so many layers to communications protocols (7, actually). But without knowing what the issues are there is no place to start troubleshooting.

Since you suspect ESET, have you tried uninstalling it or at least start your Mac in Safe Mode and test?
