Error downloading macOS Sequoia

Today, when I was downloading to macOS Sequoia, I downloaded it, but then It says "Failed to personalize software update. Please try again later." "An error occurred while downloading the selected updates. Please check your internet connection and try again later." When seeing this. I restarted my laptop. I then tried again but It showed up with this. Then, I tried restarting my modem and router. After doing this. I tried to restart the upgrade. When doing so, it did the same thing.

Then I tried connecting it via ethernet, but it then did the same thing.

I then tried downloading it from the apple website, then it downloaded as an app. Then I tried to download it from there. That did not work. It showed the same error but without the "internet connection" part.

After that failed attempt, I tried making a bootable usb to boot into the installer. This did not work either. the same thing popped up.

I don't want to erase the disk and download sequoia from there in risk from loosing data. I have a backup on a hard drive but I am afraid of loosing data either way.

If anyone could help me with this problem I have a 2023 Macbook pro M3 14 inch

I find this a most dreadful and beyond poor service. My MacBook Air M3 is less than 6 days old. Not being able to update the laptop clearly shows the laptop is not "fit for purpose" I have received two telephone support instances whereby a number of attempted fixes were made to update the software - both to no avail. I have an appointment with the Genius Bar on Monday. I am not prepared to wait for up to 30 days for the software update to be fixed by apple and lose my option of a full refund.

This debacle falls well below the level service we should expect.

I had similar problems downloading the new 15.0.1 Sequoia on my MacBook Air. I removed a number of items off my desktop and that worked for some reason. I tried yesterday 8 times, give or take, to download this new system. It failed every time. (There was nothing wrong with my internet connection). I remember my dad said that putting a lot of stuff on my desktop can be a bit "stressful" on the computer. So, I moved a number of things and the 1st time I tried to update this AM, it worked. No problems. Hope that helps. Cheers.

I think it worked finally for you because the error is random and it is retried enough times it finally works. So maybe tossing a cat over your shoulder would seem to work too.

What I did finally after trying everything suggested here was to give up and create a local bootable USB drive and then install it from bootable media. This method does not need an internet connection.

Clearly, the problem is that the server at Apple fails randomly.

Had similar issue, disabled find my, install directly from app store, boot

to safe mode and install from there but did not fixed the install issue.

I noticed the time was out of sync. The time server was incorrect, it was set

to “time.apple.com.”. Had to remove

the extra “.” at the end of the server address. Ones the time synced and rebooted then it worked.

Same here. Apple tech walked me through the same error. Had to go into Terminal and remove 2 lines. We typed in “ sudo nano /etc/host” Then typed in my password. Removed the problem lines. Works perfect now. Might call tech support. I got a great tech!!!! Now, download Sequoia OS and installed no problem. I have a new MacBook Pro with M3. Bought on Apple website refurbished. 11/5/24
