My phone is now working!

So after looking at the suggestions for a fix, I discovered that a soft reset worked perfectly for me. Suddenly Siri is working and there's no dictation lag. I'm no longer grumpy with my phone. I strongly recommend this for everyone suffering lag on their 16 Pro Max (or possibly other models,) as this was a lifesaver for me.

Here's the simple process:

  1. Press and quickly release the Volume up button
  2. Press and quickly release the Volume down button
  3. Immediately press and hold the Side button until the screen goes blank…keep holding until you see the Apple logo (will take quite a few seconds.)

Done! This is all it took to get my phone working great. I hope it works for you, too.

If I say “Siri tell me a joke” it will tell me a joke verbally. If I ask how far away the moon is, it just shows a response on screen. Same if I ask what the temperature is or what time sunset is. If I say “Siri turn your volume up” then ask it the temp or how far away the moon is, I get a verbal response. But after that one question, it reverts to just showing the response on the screen. All settings are correct. Prefer verbal responses is on, location services are on for all weather apps and others. I’ve restarted and force restarted my phone several times. What’s the fix? iPhone 12 pro

Yes and I get what some people are saying about turning on prefer spoken responses. But then if I do that it will ALWAYS speak even whe my phone is in silent mode. if I have silent mode

on I want the written/visual response. I would prefer to leave it in automatic mode but the problem is …. I can leave my

phone on the kitchen counter far away from me, wearing my AirPods say hey siri what’s 2 cups to ml …. And it won’t answer me in my AirPod it’ll flash on my screen for 3 seconds then disappear without even making any kind of acknowledgement sound

Siri has also stopped responding when I ask it a simple question like what is the capital of south Africa it will show the answer, but not verbalize it as it did the night before I upgraded to iOS 18 I was with CUSTOMER SUPPORT for almost an hour trying this that and the other thing, but it still is acting up. It will give me the time verbally and location verbally and the scores verbally when I ask you a question geographically or something else there’s no verbal acknowledgment or answer from Siri. It’s just like after iOS 18 was put in. Siri went bonkers. we tried going into Siri changing things I even thought it was the audio. I have not done a master reset hope to avoid that hopefully the technicians can find and send out a bug fix because there’s definitely something wrong. I see on the community I am not the only one. I just wanted to let people know that I had an issue as well. Thank you for the community.

I am using an iPhone 13 pro max but I am still having the issues of Siri not responding verbally when I ask you a question about a state capital or something that would be on Wikipedia it seems like he picks and chooses when to respond. Verbally I tried spoken response checkmark I unchecked it and checked it again it’s still not working. Can anyone suggest anything else thank you.

I am visually impaired, and I am trying to the best of my ability to do the set up again as you suggested, but it didn’t work and Siri still not responding by answering simple questions invoice it only does it in text form if I may ask which iPhone model are you using? I am using an iPhone 13 Pro Max. I’m wondering if the model has anything to do with this glitch

iOS 18 broke Siri on my iPhone and iPad. And I am legally blind and depend on Siri to speak to me. It almost seems that audible Siri has a quiet time. It worked this morning, this late afternoon it doesn’t. My settings have Siri volume turned up and prefer spoken response are selected. I do not use or have focus enabled, nor do I have do not disturb on. No changes to my settings between this morning and now, but late today, all responses except one have been silent. If I asked Siri, Siri are you listening? She audibly responds yes. Oh, and if I asked Siri her to tell me a joke, she tells me the joke. I need Siri! She helps me see!

Why do companies like Apple and Microsoft hire employees with such huge egos that they can't admit when their company puts out buggy updates? Everyone makes mistakes but their support staff doesn't seem to ever want to admin this and instead often resorts to victim-blaming and useless "advice". Do they not realize the harmful effect that this failed update had on people who are visually-impaired, who are accustomed to a verbal response from Siri? I expect more from the so-called support staff of these companies when they put out buggy updates that can have real-life negative impact on people who are already at risk.
