A spreadsheet I've been using for eight years has disappeared. I've searched everything -- recents, this Mac -- and have even opened individual documents in case I accidentally put it inside something. I've got nothing.

Fortunately iCloud is automatic and synced. I found it on my phone so all is not lost but I can no longer open it on my MacBook because it’s too old to handle the update.
Wish they’d given warnings the way Chrome did.
But I’ve got it so —whew!
Fair warning to others: Mine started out being tricky to find. It wouldn’t show in a search, or else buried down in recents though I’d just used it. And then one day poof.

Are you saving the documents in iCloud? If so, go there in your browser and download the document.
Also, if you aren't using a backup system like Time Machine or similar, now is the time to start!
