iMovie showing videos as still photos?

I've tried pulling vids from the photos sidebar like suggested in other threads, no go. All my videos are from an iPhone and coming straight from iPhoto. They show a red bar across the bottom when I put them into the movie I'm making. Some start out with the blue bar them change to red and show up as a still instead of a video. Help!

iMovie may be tidying up the time line so that the real time editing is encoded, or so that files can be decompressed for editing. You can wait for awhile for the tasks to complete, or you can force quit to stop the process. The tasks will begin again when iMovie is restarted and so the editing process may be slowed down a bit while the tasks go on in the background, usually nothing significant.

You are welcome. Glad it worked for you.

As you have found, dragging a video clip from the Photos app does not remove it from the Photos app. The video is copied, not moved, to the desktop. The original remains in Photos.

When exporting a photo, as opposed to a video, it is best to do a File/Export photo from the Photos app rather than dragging it. Dragging a photo can sometimes result in a lower resolution. Doing a File/Export Photo will preserve the original resolution and file size.

Also, when I try to restart iMovie, I get this.... "iMovie must complete other tasks before performing this operation. Try again once these tasks have been completed. You can view their progress by clicking the Activity Indicator in the toolbar." I have no clue what is going on, this is the first time this has happened but it's been going on for a couple days now. I need to get my Italy Vacation movie done! lol

Hi,

I am assuming that you say "from iPhoto" you mean from the Photos app. Try dragging the video from the Photos app to your Desktop first, then drag the video from the Desktop to the iMovie project. That should prevent the video from displaying as a still image.

A red bar means that the clip has been rejected.
