Update: I resolved the connectivity issue after hours of trying all permutations and combinations and trying all remedies out there in the net. The thing that resolved the issue was removing the power source from the monitor and re connecting it. This idea popped in my mind as i found the Samsung Thunderbolt cable (the one shipped with the monitor) wasn't providing power to my Macbook Pro M2 laptop. After removing the power from monitor and reconnecting i found the power restored to the cable and hence to my laptop. Thereafter the macbook was able to identify the external monitor. All's well that end's well.

'Shipped in the box' cables are NOTORIOUS for being "lowest-bidder" cables, just good enough to keep you from returning the display on the first day.

The appropriate ThunderBolt cable is a certified cable, as indicated by the ThunderBolt symbol at each end.

Apple cables for this purpose are limited to 0.8 meters in length, maximum. Brand-X cables are limited to 0.5 meters, maximum.
