Export contacts to a CSV file

I'm trying to export my nearly 4,000 contacts from my Mac to a CRM system. Seems like the best intermediary is exporting from Apple Contacts to a CSV file. I've read the advice online that you can drag and drop from Contacts to Numbers, and when I tested with a handful of contacts, it seemed to work great. But when I try to drag and drop all 4,000 of my contacts, I get the spinning wheel for a minute or so, and then I have just a blank Numbers template. So it seems like it can't handle that many contacts. Is there another way to do this?

Repeating doesn't work, unfortunately. I have do a couple hundred at once, no problem. But then if I repeat, the second batch overlaps onto the first.

Not sure I understand why there would be overlap if you make sure to drag and drop each batch to a different place in Numbers, then put it all together.
