You haven't been billed for anything. It's a scam to make you panic and respond. Then they'll ask for detailed account info to cheat you out of your money. The first clue is that it came from a Gmail account. IGNORE it, do not respond!!!!

Don’t interact with the scammers. Always check forums before replying to anything.

Apple will not text you like this.

If they point you to:

General:

Language & Region:

And at the very bottom of the page they point out:

$12,345.67 and 4,567.89, please look at the first three words that say:

Region Format Example

and then maybe look closely at the date, which is usually in the future.

Charges are not listed under language or font preferences.

Hey y’all, it is march 6th 2025. I received this msg twice in one week. Still going around I see. The exact same msg down to the dollar amount. I knew it was scam.

With inevitable text edits and ever-varying contact info, this and similar scams will be going for years, if not decades.

Ever-varying AI-generated scam text will undoubtedly become more common for ever-better scamming, too.

“They” is actually thousands of low paid workers, some of then essentially slaves, in other countries (Myanmar is a major source of phishing and other scams) that send out millions of texts, email, phone calls and other ways to try to find suckers who they can fleece. And it continues because it is highly profitable; it is estimated that scams such as this brought in 12.5 billion dollars last year.
