can't find numbers file

I had two numbers files on my macbook that were called Yearly Accounting 2023 and Yearly accounting 2024. The second one was password-protected. They have both disappeared. I haven't opened the one from 2023 for months, and had closed the one from 2024 probably 20 days ago. I do not see the files in the Trash, which has not been emptied in months.

I tried searching with cmd+F, looking through recents, and I cannot find them anywhere. Any help appreciated! Thank you

It's a long shot, but when you search in Finder you could narrow down the criteria like this:

  1. "2023" as the only text to search
  2. Choose Filenames option in the drop down where it says Name Contains "2023"

You could also try logging into iCloud.com and searching for the file there. You may have iCloud synced to your computer, but it may be worth seeing if it somehow became un-synced.

Lastly, maybe the file is saved in a Numbers folder itself. Open Numbers and then within that Finder window click the Numbers folder to see if it's in there.

Best of luck to you!
