iMovie update 10.4.1 freezes at crop selection

MacBook Pro, 16", M3. Using iMovie with trail camera imports. Worked fine until iMovie update 10.4.1. Now when editing, with crop tools, as soon as the point is selected for dragging the frame the program hangs. The double-headed arrow remains on the screen and is movable. The only escape seems to be a forced quit of the program. I used the Time Machine to roll back to the previous version and it worked fine - apart from the fact that the libraries would not load having been created by the 10.4.1 version. However the cropping tool worked. Updating to iMovie 10.4.1 gave the same problem when attempting to crop. This is very frustrating as the crop tool is an intrinsic part of my workflow in iMovie.

Help!

Good to hear I'm not alone. Deleted programme, redownloaded it . No change

That is weird.

I only dabble with iMovie so I know only the basics but in my Movies folder I have just 3 folders connected with iMovie.

The one on the left has just 3 projects from December last year and the one on the far right has a dozen or so projects dated this month.

I recently updated iMovie to the latest version, so has the Library icon changed and any project I have worked on recently has been transferred to the new Library?

HI,

Sometimes with updates iMovie preferences can get corrupted. Try deleting/resetting preferences and see if that resolves it.

To delete/reset preferences open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete

preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Now see if the freezing problem with the crop tool is resolved. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes.  Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

Called Apple today about the I-movie freezing issues and inability to crop video and the agent who was very helpful ran my laptop through some possible fixes (gave him access to screen and we documented the issues, even made a video of my screen while I showed the issues with I-movie). We are awaiting a response from the higher up people in apple to give us a diagnosis of the issue. But in the meantime, a work-around is to log out of your mac and log back in as a different user (we created another user profile) and YAY, you can use imovie without it freezing up and you are able to crop video too. If anyone tries this, please let me know if it worked for you. It is a pain to have to change profiles but at least it works.
