How can I convert ripped or downloaded songs in my library to Apple Music versions?

I have a pretty large library of music which consists mostly of songs I ripped from CD's and downloaded from various music services over the years. I have been using iTunes forever but only fairly recently started using Apple Music. I think my entire library is there when I sign into Apple Music, but if I build a playlist and try to share it with family/friends, they never get all the songs. I think it might be because some of the songs in the playlist are from my old ripped/downloaded library and aren't iTunes/Apple Music versions. Does that sound right? And if so, is there a way for me to easily replace all my ripped and downloaded songs with iTunes/Apple Music files? Thank you.

Playlist sharing does not directly share the actual songs. It shares a text list and when they get it, their own devices generate the songs from their own Apple Music subscription.

If the songs are not available in the Apple Music catalog, then those will not be shared with the playlist.

There no way to convert them, either they are available or not.
