Congrats on the purchase. The deployment technique you desire is call Shared iPad. Start here for official details.
The key requirements are in the second paragraph: Shared iPad requires a mobile device management (MDM) solution and Managed Apple IDs that are issued and owned by the organization.
You are required to do the following:
1: Sign up for Apple School Manager - make sure you create at least two admins
2: Since you have already purchased your equipment, you likely will not be able to backload the devices into ASM unless you purchased through Apple Education sales. If you can get the devices associated to your ASM, that is the easy path (although, if they are already setup, you will be resetting the unit to trigger auto enrollment. If you can't backload the devices, I foresee a trip down Apple Configurator lane. I fear this initial purchase will need to be side loaded using Configuator. Not terrible, but a pain. Side loading will result in the device being wiped so don't get too deep into using them yet. By side loading, you can manually inject the asset into ASM.
3: Choose an MDM as this is how you will turn the unit into Shared iPad mode. The ability to do this is in an MDM's prestage policy (basically, the first policy that triggers device enrollment). There are many MDMs on the market. Jamf Pro, Mosyle, Intune, etc.
4: Link your ASM and MDM together but importing the DEP (Device Enrollment) and VPP (Volume Purchasing) tokens. Create and maintain a push certificate.
5: In ASM, license/purchase all the apps that you need to support your program. Here is a tip. If the app is free, license hundreds. Yes, I know you are starting with 10 devices. But where there is 10, there will eventually be 11, and 12, and so forth. Save your future self from lost time and frustration. License in excess of your initial need. 10 * $0 = 500 * $0. Assign your hardware assets to your MDM. You can also define future behavior to allow properly purchased hardware to automatically assign to your MDM.
6: In the MDM, define your prestage to support Shared iPad and then setup your Apps and configuration profiles.
7: Enroll a device by powering it up for the first time or by reseting an iPad that needs to be in Shared iPad mode.
8: Decide how you want to create Managed Apple IDs. Since this is an educational deployment and I don't expect the students exist in the company/org domain, Federation to your cloud identity provider is probably not on your radar. Instead, you can simply create Managed Apple IDs and export a CVS (you can also send an email but if the kids don't have email or are under 13, there may be issues with that).
9: Use the MAIDs to log into the device using unique credentials. Note, you can go deeper and use Apple School or MDM specific school apps if you are looking for classes and assignments. This is not required.
Ok, hope this is helpful. Ideally, you would have setup ASM before purchasing equipment. Oh, and one other tip. Icons on Shared iPad cannot be rearranged by the users. So build a Home Screen layout profile to put everything in a predictable place.
