Podcasts marked as played too soon

I listen to podcasts from oldest to newest, and the best way to do this is using the "Unplayed" list. When I finish an episode, it automatically queues up the oldest unplayed episode of that Podcast. However, if I then switch to a different episode or podcast, it will automatically mark that oldest episode as played, even if I haven't even started it! Is there any fix for this???!?!?!?

(This is especially annoying as what I really want is for the app to just remember where I was chronologically in the podcast and keep playing from there, but that seems to be impossible.)
