iPhone not synching/connecting with iMac

I have an iPhone 13. My mac is older, Ventura 13.6.6. I connect my phone and the finder either does not recognize it. I did install the app as prompted. I checked my phone and it did not need an update. I just connected my phone and.... the system did not recognize it. I turned my phone off and on. The system recognized it but I was unable to sync or backup. I then got a prompt on my mac to update my phone. What? I had just checked the phone and the information was that it was up to date. So, now I am updating my phone from my computer.

This is becoming an annoying hassle as it happens frequently. What is going on with Apple and how can I just get the devices to just connect as I used to be able to do?

I would appreciate any help. Thanks so much.

There was news shortly after Apple released IOS 17.4.1 build 21E236 that they had re-released 17.4.1 with a new build number, 21E237. However, this new build is only available as an IPSW File and the only way to update your iPhone is by connecting to your Mac or PC with iTunes using a compatible USB cable. On your iPhone, if you go to Settings > General > About > IOS Version, you’ll find the version and build number you are on.

This should explain why you had gotten the prompt to update your iPhone while connected to your Mac, but I am unsure why you are encountering an error backing up your device other than to say it’s probably a software bug. I do suggest you try using a different USB compatible cable if you haven’t already. Hope this helps!
