Homes being created but not deleted from iCloud

I recently moved to a new house and HomePod just sat on configuring for ever. I created a new home and despite the following message that the old Home will be deleted from iCloud it keeps coming back. After hours of trying to setup a new home I have 8 Homes and I can't delete them from iCloud they keep coming back. They I tried creating a new Home called "My Home" but the old home won't delete. They show on Apple Watch and in other apps that use home kit. If I create a new user profile on Mac all my old homes come back.The whole process is incredibly frustrating.
