First thing it does is ask me to take off my glasses. Once off, the front display is just a blur. Then it says, move it farther away.. move it farther away, until my arms are fully outstretched. Do I need another person to hold it for me? Is anyone else running into this issue?

I've found that it needs bright lighting and a fairly neutral background. Unless you're a T-Rex, fully outstretched would indicate that it's having trouble finding your face, not that you're too close.
( my bathroom has the right lighting, but AVP doesn't like the background 🤷 )
