Unable to add Gmail accounts to MacBook Air mail app

Every time to try to add a gmail account to the mail app on my MacBook Air, it has me go through the whole sign in process and then it gives me a 400 error code.

It says "The server cannot process the request because it is malformed. It should not be retried. That’s all we know."

I've tried my other gmail accounts (I only use gmail) as well and it doesn't seem to work on those either. How do I fix this issue?

Yes it allows me to sign into my gmail via safari, just not in the mail app.

I've been struggling with this all day today too—but I just got it to work! Hopefully it's not a fluke and might work for you too.

Go through the log-in process until you reach the 400: "malformed" error. From here, I right clicked, which produces a small set of options: Reload Page, Back, Show Page Source, etc. Choose "Back."

The first time I tried this, it didn't respond, and I closed out, trying a whole bunch of other methods from the internet, none of which yielded any success. The next time I got the error message, I tried "Back" again, and it took me back to the log-in. I clicked on my username and it asked for my permissions and voilà! My email is back on my computer.

Hopefully this helps!
