I want to use my Mac mini but get rid of my monitor and use the vision pro as such is this possible?

I always see videos about the MacBook pro but what about the Mac mini or iMac? Can I use this as my monitor only and use my Mac mini for the power?

I use my AVP with a Mac mini running Sonoma. It works fine but I have to log into the Mac mini first before the AVP can see it to link to it, which means I need a desktop monitor connected to the Mac mini first. I can't take the Mac mini, without a monitor, to a coffee shop along with my AVP. I suppose an OS upgrade to Sonoma might fix this in the future. It's not really a problem with AVP, as such.

I'm an M1 Mac Mini owner and was wondering the same thing. I was disheartened to hear a popular YouTuber exclaim it's only on MacBook pros. I'm happy to report he was wrong.

I'm not sure about he power side of things. But the article here explains it can indeed connect to the mini or imac: https://appleinsider.com/inside/apple-vision-pro/tips/how-to-use-mac-virtual-display-for-apple-vision-pro-with-desktop-macs-and-macbooks

Excerpts: "..The first thing to remember is that you need to have a Mac running on macOS 14 Sonoma or later. It will work with both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, but it does have to be using Apple's latest-generation operating system."

"..Depending on your Mac's processor, you may also see a variation in resolutions you can adjust to. For Intel Macs, you can have a transmitted display at a resolution of up to 3K, meanwhile Apple Silicon Macs can go up to 4K."

"..Lastly, remember that you can locate the Mac Virtual Display away from the Mac itself, but there is a range to consider. Apple says the Apple Vision Pro can be up to 30 feet away from the Mac for the feature to continue working."

"How to start an Apple Vision Pro Mac Virtual Display session with a Mac mini or Mac Studio

  1. Wearing the Apple Vision Pro and with the Mac turned on, look up then tap the down arrow near the top of your view to show Control Center.
  2. Tap the Control Center toggle button to show more options.
  3. Tap the Mac Virtual Display button, which is an icon that looks like a MacBook Pro next to an Apple Vision Pro.
  4. A list of connectable Mac desktops will appear. Select the correct one from the list.

To end a Mac Virtual Display session, simply tap the close button at the base of the Mac window to disconnect."
