I have all the Apple Toys someone could have and after firing up my AVP today I started to get text (iMessages to be exact) from some friends and they're only showing up as phone numbers, not my contacts' names and info. Did I mess something up during set up or will my contacts eventually sync?
Update: Yes, I found the 'hidden' area under the AppleID / iCloud area - so allow apps to sync... and I selected Contacts, Messages, etc...
So, now--- My Messages app does show my messages... and the names of contacts, etc... So that is good.
However, this 'People' app is still blank. 36 hrs later... reboots, etc... It shows no one.
And I know my contacts are there b/c they show in the messages app now... and I downloaded a 3rd party contact manager from the App store on my vision pro and it shows all 900+ contacts... but not this 'People' app and I do not see a 'Contacts' app on my Vision Pro.
So I am not sure what this 'People' app is for... and I do not know why the "Contacts" app is not on this unit.

Go to settings, name/appleid, icloud, click the option to show all the apps, and then turn on the syncing for contacts, messages, and whatever else you want. It worked for me after that. Not sure why this isn't activated by default.
Same for me... I have reset, etc - tried to restore from an iPhone backup, but I don't see that as an option. Very odd that my "people" is blank, iMessages are all blank, FaceTime history blank, etc... None of that history/data is syncing with my other devices
Is there no 'Contacts' app? Just 'People'?
When you open iMessages, do you see your history? Mine is clean as a whistle... no historical messages appear.
