I am trying to do a fresh install of Mac OS on my iMac 2008 machine. All goes well intel these screens appear. Ive tried everything, word peripherals, magic ones too, used terminal commands, everything but the process stops here dead in its tracks ⛔️

Yer_Man thanks very much. I have switched the Magic mouse on and off again in diff combinations and resorted to a wired mouse. I have a track pad so will disconnect it from my other machine thats its currently paired with and pair it with the imac in question - thanks VM
FWIW, the stuff circled in red is a web address to more info…
They mean it's time to turn on your trackpad (Image 1) or Magic Mouse (Image 2) to pair with the Mac so you can continue the installation.
If you plug the mouse and/or trackpad charging cable into the iMac, they will pair up immediately.
