how to set an apple tv hd into recovery mode? is this even possible?

I'm pretty sure my apple tv hd crashed in the middle of an update. I've tried restoring it through itunes on my pc and even tried the diagnostics steps on the website and still nothing worked. I even looked through the papers that came in the box and nothing about putting it into recovery mode so i assume its not even possible. but if it is please help me or at least let me know if my apple tv is just beyond repair.
