To Add Buttons To Slide Layouts

I’m trying to create slide layouts with buttons. I created the layout. Was able to use the Add Link feature to attach links to images to create my buttons. And it all looked fine in slide layout. But when I return to the presentation the buttons do not work. Why? How do I create slide layouts with buttons that work? Thanks.

Buttons not working on a single slide animation ... I made a simple animation with only one image, moving it and changing size. I then added a button that is linked to another slide. That works , but only if I don't start the animation . I also added music, but that does not work at all. Both buttons work fine on non animated slides. What can I do to make music and link button to work?
