HomePod will not connect to iPhone

I had just bought a HomePod. I set it up and connected it to Wi-Fi. When I turn it on it plays random music and it won’t play the music from my phone. I thought it would easily connect to my phone but it doesn’t. It keeps saying pairing was unsuccessful. Is there something else I need to do?

it's not the homepod that need to access the iphone it's the iphone that needs to airplay music to the homepod
