Automations iPhone 8 prompt

Hi. I’ve got an iPhone 13 where automations in Shortcut app run without being prompted. I’m trying to do the same on an old iPhone 8 but there is no option to “Run Immediately”. When the automation is triggered, running the action needs to be confirmed.

Two questions:

1) are older iPhones not able to run automations without confirmation ?

2) if not, which iPhones DO run them without confirmation by the user?

Thanks for your feedback.

Hi Big-Vince,

It appears you're referring to the function of Enabling an automation to run without asking, a section included in the support article Enable or disable a personal automation in Shortcuts on iPhone or iPad.

It's important to note that options compatible with this function have some variances across iOS versions. For example, on iOS 16 the list of supported automations shows as:

"The following automations can be run automatically:

  • Time of Day
  • Alarm
  • Sleep
  • CarPlay
  • Apple Watch Workout
  • NFC
  • App
  • Airplane Mode
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Low Power Mode
  • Battery Level
  • Charger

Note: You also may need to set individual actions to run automatically."

while iOS 17 offers this for

"The following automations can be run automatically:

  • Time of Day
  • Alarm
  • Sleep
  • Arrive
  • Leave
  • CarPlay
  • Email
  • Message
  • Transaction
  • Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth
  • Apple Watch Workout
  • NFC
  • App
  • Airplane Mode
  • Do Not Disturb
  • Low Power Mode
  • Battery Level
  • Charger
  • Sound Recognition

Note: You also may need to set individual actions to run automatically." (emphasis added)

The bolded items are exclusive only to iOS 17 and are not device dependant.

Regards.
