IPAD 7 screen un repsonsive even after a restart

My son's IPAD screen does not respond to any touch. I have restarted the device by pressing the home and power buttons but when it comes to inputting the passcode, the screen remains unresponsive. All options that I can find are to press and hold the home and power buttons but there is nothing to actually fix the screen remaining unresponsive.

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:


Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.




Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.




If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

Thank you for that, none of those worked, I have tried several restarts and IOS upgrades but nothing seems to work.

I have a keyboard that does work but there is nothing I can see to test / restart the screen


However on closer inspection there is a very small smudge outline on the middle left hand edge of the screen and thinking that this has depressed enough to make the screen think it already has an input and will not allow any other input.


Thoughts ?
